A Survey on Botnets: Incentives, Evolution, Detection and Current Trends

Botnets, groups of malware-infected hosts controlled by malicious actors, have gained prominence in an era pervasive computing and the Internet Things. Botnets shown a capacity to perform substantial damage through distributed denial-of-service attacks, information theft, spam malware propagation. In this paper, systematic literature review on botnets is presented reader order obtain understanding incentives, evolution, detection, mitigation current trends within field botnet research computing. The focuses particularly topic detection proposed solutions mitigate threat system security. Botnet mechanisms are categorised briefly described allow for easy overview many solutions. paper also summarises findings identify challenges help improvements further research.
